This past Saturday, GHS Leo Club students participated in "Sight Night", collecting 48 pairs of eyeglasses and cases for people in need in the community. Way to go!

GISD will celebrate Red Ribbon week from Mon., Oct. 21 - Oct. 25 with the following dress up days. Go Buffs.

GHS Black History is now selling pre game meal tickets for October 25th. Find any member of the black history club to purchase yours!

Attention Seniors & Senior Parents, Important information was distributed this week to seniors concerning graduation / cap & gown orders. Orders for Cap & gown, graduation announcements & other senior items will be taken on campus on Thursday October 17th from 12:00 – 2:00. Please make sure and take advantage of this on campus order day as some items are delivered at time of order. Congratulations to the Class of 2025 and Go Buffs!!

The GHS Theatre Club and GHS Leo's Club volunteered at National Night Out Tuesday at the Giddings Veteran's Park sponsoring the paint booth for the night. Great job!

Giddings FFA had a great outing last week at the Heart O' Texas Fair and Rodeo. We had multiple scholarships won as well as other awards. Abigail Snyder won Reserve Champion American Scramble Heifer and Champion Multimedia. Hagen Boullion won Reserve Champion Maine Anjou heifer in the Premium Show. Kinsley Gandy received 3rd in the multimedia contest. Eli Parks (8th grade) won Reserve Champion Red Brahman Heifer in the Scholarship Show. All other students worked hard and did well in their respective classes. Kallie Grimm attended the State Fair of Texas as well. She placed 3rd in her class with her market barrow. She also was awarded Certified Texas Bred award for her class. She will be selling her market barrow later this week.

Our Technical Theatre class have been hard at work building sets and props for this years GMS production of ALICE IN WONDERLAND. A giant teapot, rose bushes, flamingo golf clubs and flower headdress are just a few of the great pieces being built by our talented students.

This afternoon, Giddings Middle School received a call from a parent that received a bogus text that there might be a school shooting as GMS. The Giddings Police Department was immediatly notified and began investigating. The Giddings Police Department has determined thus far that this number may be linked to an unverifiable account. Giddings Police Department has concluded that there is no credible threat at this time. GPD will continue its investigation and GPD and GISD will continue to keep the safety of our students and staff as our top priority. There is a GMS football game this evening and we will have extra security at the game.

NOTICE OF FALSE ALERT AT GIDDINGS I.S.D. (For Immediate Release 9/10/2024) Ray DeSpain, Ed. D., GISD Superintendent Late yesterday afternoon, the Lee County Sheriff’s Department received a message alleging that a student had been overheard making a threat to do harm at the school. School personnel were immediately alerted, and we began a full investigation in cooperation with law enforcement personnel. That investigation went late into the evening yesterday, and continued through lunch time today. At no time was there ever any credible evidence of danger to any student or staff member, nor was there any weapon involved or threat of harm verified. In the future, we respectfully request that any person with credible knowledge of an incident or threat is encouraged to report it to appropriate school personnel or law enforcement instead of posting on social media. Rest assured that we will always do our due diligence to make sure all students and staff are safe at all times – which is our number one priority as school administrators. Giddings ISD whole heartedly believes in the Homeland Security slogan of: “If you see something, say something.” However, repeating rumors and spreading false information with no credibility only creates fear and makes it more difficult for the District to respond in these type situations.
