Weiser Moves on to State

The Buffs and Lady Buffs competed at the Region 3-4A championships this past weekend. Region 3 is a very competitive region consisting of over 50 schools from southeast Texas, Houston area, east Texas, and central Texas.

The Lady Buffs finished 6th overall, led by Carlie Weiser's first place finishes in the shot put and discus. In the shot put she threw 46 feet, 11 inches. In the discus she threw 150 feet, 9 inches. Carlie qualified for the state meet, which will be held at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin on Thursday, May 11th.

Also scoring for the Lady Buffs were Kaylon Metcalf, finishing 3rd in the shot put, and Faith Zoch, finishing 4th in the 300 hurdles. Other Lady Buffs competing include Abby Iselt (pole vault and 4x100 relay), Ashton Grimm (pole vault), Reese Weiser (pole vault and 4x200 relay), Jaelyn Lebron (100 hurdles, 400, and 4x400 relay), Riesa Kieschnick (4x100 and 4x200 relays), Arisbeth Segundo (4x100 and 4x200 relays), Jordyn Swindell (4x100 and 4x200 relays), Grace Fromme (4x400 relay), Kassi Oltmann (4x400 relay), Kaitlin Wilson (1600 and 3200), Lauren Matthijetz (800 and 1600), Emily Schulze (800), and Emmerson Harville (relay alternate). Faith also competed on the 4x400 relay.

Many of these athletes ran personal or season bests. Despite not scoring in the boys division, many Buffs also set personal and season bests.

Competing for the Buffs were Kayden Bloodworth (1600 and 3200), Julian Olivares (1600 and 3200), Joseph Villegas (1600 and 3200), Jusiah Sampleton (shot put and discus), Devin Gossett (triple jump), Evan Young (pole vault and 110 hurdles), and Gunnar Fromme (pole vault, high jump, 110 hurdles, and 300 hurdles).

We were extremely proud of the effort put forth by these athletes and the season they had. We're also very excited for Carlie and look forward to her competing at the state meet.
