Giddings Independent School District is announcing leadership changes within its athletic programs that reflect both continuity and growth for student-athletes.

After eight seasons, Dedra Wolff is stepping down as Head Volleyball Coach at Giddings High School to assume a new role as the Giddings ISD Head Tennis Coach. Coach Wolff was hired in 2018 following coaching stops in Elgin ISD and Georgetown ISD. During her time leading the volleyball program, she guided the Lady Buffaloes to the playoffs every year, establishing a consistent standard of competitiveness within the program.

Arturo Velasquez has been named the new Head Volleyball Coach at Giddings High School. Coach Velasquez joined Giddings ISD in 2021 and has served as the Assistant Volleyball Coach and JV Coach. Prior to his time in Giddings, he coached in Gonzales ISD, Socorro ISD, and Ysleta ISD, bringing a diverse range of experience and perspective to the program.

“Coach Velasquez has been an integral part of our volleyball program’s success over the past several years and knows our athletes well,” Athletic Director Luke Hobbs stated. “His coaching style, dedication to our athletes, and knowledge of the game make him a natural fit to lead the program moving forward.”

Giddings ISD is enthusiastic about the future of both its volleyball and tennis programs. These transitions reflect the district’s commitment to building on past success while continuing to provide high-quality athletic opportunities for all students.
